This spring and summer, we at Ixtatan are reminded of the profound impact your generosity has had on the lives of students in the Western highlands of Guatemala, particularly those attending Centro Uno Schools in northern Huehuetenango. Your support has helped create an environment where learning thrives despite the challenges posed by the elements.
The recent heat wave warning issued by the Guatemalan government is a stark reminder of the conditions many communities face in the region. However, thanks to you, Centro Uno Schools stand as a model, providing a sanctuary from the heat. The innovative design of the school building, with its earth blocks and strategically designed roof, ensures airflow to a comfortable learning environment for students throughout the day.
Our regular programs, including project-based learning training, English programs, and the Community Library, remain vital to our educational initiatives. This year, 30 students are part of our scholarship program, 100 students have begun the in-person English classes in the city of Huehuetenango, and 70 students are enrolled in our reading club and our financial literacy program at the library in San Mateo Ixtatán.
